Head replacement

Head replacement means taking the head off a golf club shaft and fitting another one. It is also the fix for a head that rattles, turns on the shaft or has worked loose, because the bond between head and shaft gives way over time. 14 Clubs does head work at the workshop in Frekhaug.

How we fit a club head

[Oliver to confirm]

  1. Check how the head is fixed to the shaft, bonded or adjustable.
  2. Heat the hosel and take the old head off, or clean out a bond that has failed.
  3. Prepare the shaft tip and fit the head square to the face.
  4. Fit a new ferrule and let the epoxy cure before the club is ready for pick-up.

Questions

Questions about head replacement

Why does a club head come loose?

The epoxy bond between head and shaft breaks down over time, and a knock or a damp golf bag speeds it up. A head that rattles or turns should be dealt with before it comes off during a swing.

How long does head work take?

Your club is usually ready in [x working days]. Epoxy needs time to cure, so head work is rarely same-day.
